What is a facial primer?
As a lady that suffers with the dreaded dull and dehydrated skin myself Im always on a mission to find those products that make me look like i've drank those 8 glasses of water and had my 8 hours of sleep on my silk pillow (thanks to the kiddies that's not going to happen ha)
One thing I do like to wear personally is a really glowy and dewy primer. If you don't know what a facial primer is then let me explain …
Makeup primers are worn after your skincare and before your foundation. A good primer is designed to make your base look better and for makeup to sit better. So as an example someone with enlarged pores might use a primer which will minimise the look of their pores ready for foundation to go on and look smoother.
It should (remember not all makeup is made equally) make your makeup such as foundation, blush, contour, bronzer last longer. Not everyone agrees that a primer is needed, some people believe that good skincare is all you need. Obviously I'm a fan of primers and use them on myself and clients alike. Like all skincare and makeup choose a primer that suits your skin type. Today I'm going to talk you through my favourite primers for dry/dull skin, these are in no particular order just a bunch of primers I like.
My top illuminating primers
1) PUR Filter Primer £24
This primer comes in a glass bottle with a pipette dropper. It has a white colour to it and you can see when put onto the skin the micro pearls within the primer really brings your skin to life. Added benefits to this primer are the hydrating and moisturising ingredients, perfect for that thirsty skin. This is a cruelty free product and brand.
There's a reason this is Beccas best seller, it's a gorgeous primer. Not only does this primer boost radiance but it blurs skin texture. I personally do not suffer with enlarged pores however its still nice that this primer will blur out my pores leaving foundation to sit beautifully and my skin to look flawless. The ingredients list shows fragrance so this product is not fragrance free.
This product is cruelty free and vegan. Becca is a PETA certified.
3) NYX Professional Makeup Born to Glow! £12.50
A lovely drugstore favourite is this primer from USA brand NYX Cosmetics which not only gives a beautiful radiance but is just that little more affordable than the above primers. This is a cruelty free brand.
4) Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter £34
Of course I couldn't do a list of illuminating primers without mentioning Charlotte Tilbury. A great primer that will give you a beautiful glowy base. Wear this as a primer or as a liquid highlighter on the highpoints of your face. The only issue I have is the heavy chunky bottle this comes in, for a professional makeup artist this is not ideal for the kit but for personal use where it sits beautifully on your dressing table it's not an issue. This is a cruelty free brand.
Not a primer per se but the most beautiful moisturiser for those that don't want to invest in a primer. This moisturiser will illuminate your face and give you the perfect base for makeup. Absolutely fantastic product.
